Meeting with representatives of the Frontex Fundamental Rights Office
On Tuesday, 5 July, Ineta Piļāne, Deputy Ombudsman, Head of the Civil and Political Rights Division, and Baiba Kiršteina, senior lawyer of the Division, met with representatives of the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) Fundamental Rights Office — Deputy Fundamental Rights Officer Grigoris Tsoukas and Fundamental Rights Monitors Marta Szczepanik and Konstantinos Kazanas.
They discussed current issues in the field of migration – both in the Latvian and geopolitical context. Inter-institutional cooperation, examples of good practices and ways to strengthen cooperation were also discussed. Particular attention was paid to the role of the Ombudsman’s Office in assessing complaints and submissions, as well as in carrying out preventive visits to places where migrants’ freedom is restricted.
