On Tuesday, September 26, the Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia in cooperation with the Council of Europe, the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), the European Network of Equality Bodies (Equinet) and the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) organize the Platform of Social and Economic rights, where will discuss how to the reduce poverty in Latvia and in Europe.

The Ombudsman's Office of the Republic of Latvia has been nominated for the Latvia`s 2017 Trafficking in Persons Report Hero. This nomination reflects the work of the Ombudsman's Office in the field of preventing human trafficking.

On 28-29 of June in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Ombudsman Ineta Pilane participated as a trainer and expert from Latvia in a workshop on the (possible) human rights violations.

Why not to be proud of speaking a language spoken by few millions only? Why do we not use the opportunity to be a part of something so special, rare and protectable? It is our Latvian language — small, but ancient and cared for, strong and sonorous. And people are the ones that make a language great. People who think in it, speak it and listen to it. I am truly honoured to be amongst those few millions thinking in, speaking and listening to the Latvian language, and I am glad to understand and be understood by others.
